About

The theme of this symposium is "Genomics in Healthcare". It will be held at The Star Loft at The Star Performing Arts Centre from 19-20 April, 2018. We expect attendance of >100 delegates from Singapore and Southeast Asia based on attendance from our first successful Symposium held in April 2017. The target audience will consist of clinicians, scientists, healthcare providers, small medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), start-ups, government officials from various disciplines who may have an interest in setting up NGS-based tests as part of their clinical services or research.

At SMDS, we aim to foster regional collaborations between scientists and clinicians to bring translational genomics medicine closer to reality.

Molecular Diagnosis Centre (MDC) is a division of the Department of Laboratory Medicine in National University Hospital (NUH). It was previously headed by A/Prof Evelyn Koay (PhD, FRCPath, FAACB) since its inception in April 1998. MDC is currently headed by Dr Benedict Yan (MBBS, FRCPath), and supported by a team of professional staff including Dr Karen Tan (PhD, MBBS, FRCPath) and experienced technical staff. To-date, MDC houses >100 validated diagnostic tests encompassing infectious diseases, genetic mutations, prenatal diagnosis, hemato-oncology, and pharmacogenetics. To meet local and international standards of performance, MDC is accredited by College of American Pathologists (CAP) and SAC-SINGLAS. MDC is also actively involved in R&D and has published widely in the domains mentioned above.
